Schindler’s Factory Tour

Oskar Schindler’s Factory Guided Tour in Kraków

Oskar Schindler’s Factory Museum is located in the original enamel factory owned by Oskar Schindler during World War II. Today, it is one of the most important museums in Kraków, dedicated to the history of the city and its inhabitants – both Jewish and Polish – during the Nazi occupation.

Visiting the museum offers a powerful insight into daily life in Kraków between 1939 and 1945, as well as the story of Oskar Schindler, who used his position and resources to save more than a thousand Jewish lives.

Guided Tour of Schindler’s Factory

The guided tour of Schindler’s Factory lasts approximately 1.5 hours. The meeting point is at the entrance to the museum at Lipowa Street 4 in the Zabłocie district of Kraków.

The tour is led by a licensed local guide who explains the historical background, museum exhibitions and key events of wartime Kraków. The nearest tram stops are Plac Bohaterów Getta and Zabłocie, and parking is available on nearby streets.

Museum Exhibitions and Experience

The main exhibition, “Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945”, is largely interactive and takes visitors on a chronological journey through the war years. The exhibition includes historical photographs, documents, multimedia installations, testimonies and short films.

Visitors move through reconstructed rooms and thematic sections that present life in occupied Kraków, the Jewish ghetto, forced labour, resistance and everyday survival under Nazi rule.

Who Was Oskar Schindler

Oskar Schindler was a German industrialist who purchased the enamel factory in Kraków in 1939. Although he initially employed Jewish workers for economic reasons, he later devoted his fortune and personal connections to protecting them from deportation and death.

His actions became widely known through the book and film Schindler’s List, which tell the story of how more than 1,000 Jewish people survived the Holocaust thanks to his efforts. Schindler was later honoured as Righteous Among the Nations.

Important Information

The museum visit is generally recommended for visitors aged 14 and over due to the historical subject matter. Photography is allowed in most areas, with some restrictions.

Advance booking is recommended, as the museum is one of Kraków’s most visited attractions and guided tours often sell out.

The Schindler’s Factory tour can be combined with other historical tours, such as Auschwitz-Birkenau or the Wieliczka Salt Mine, to create a full-day itinerary.
